Spring Tour Notes from Coco

Well, the tour started off in the Pacific Northwest - from Washington State all the way up to Canada and back down to Washington, then into Oregon and finally into the bay area. Funny thing is that my bus “Broonhilda” was not up for the tour. We instead had to take my 1999 Lincoln Navigator and a U-haul trailer, and off we went. What a great time we had though, and we made new friends along the way. We also had good crowds and a lot of fun and a lot of COLD weather. To end it all I got sick by the time the tour was done! We had a few days off - but I didn’t get any better: I got worse. However, if I can help it I will try to NEVER cancel a show unless I can’t get there: I played 3 days in Southern California where I could still play but just had no voice. I give thanks to my good friends Johnny “V” Vernazza, Tab Benoit and Kim Wilson - if it weren’t for you all I don’t know what I would have done. Thank you!

At this point I only had one day to rest and then we were back on the road again (this time to Dallas, Texas)…still not feeling well but getting a bit better. Next came a 3 day drive: First stop Granada Theater - what a nice theater; a few songs were recorded here for HDTV. I have not seen it but as soon as I hear it is out I will let you know. We were also lucky to have a good friend of mine Buddy Whittington come up and play with us. What fun that was! We played 4 shows in Texas and off we went. I would not see home until the end of March.

Now during this tour (just to name a few places) we went to Florida, Georgia, New York, Canada, Rhoda Island and I can’t forget going to Minnechaug High School, where my good friend Art Tipaldi teaches a Blues and Lit. class. This is the second time I came out and took time off to play for these students. I got to talk with them and answer any questions they had about the business and the life that goes with it. I was truly grateful to be able to do this - thank you Art and your students for all the kind letters I got from you. It was very uplifting for me to know I touched so many. One thing you must see on my MySpace is a student named T.J. Dwyer who came up and jammed with us while we were there: Wow, can he play. If you have not seen it please check it out. He also has a CD about to be released. Thank you T.J for the fun!

Well here we are about to head into the summer months and we will be out there on the road again. We are heading into Europe for a day here and there and will also hopefully be around your town. Please keep an eye on my website and/or the MySpace page for up and coming tour dates. I would like to thank Nick and Lenora for working hard to keep up with old and new information and working on a Merchandise site. Yes, they finally have talked me into working on T-shirts and maybe other things too but for now this section is still under construction. Oh, this reminds me to tell you- if you have any photos you would like to share on our web site please register and upload them - we do love seeing them.

And finally, Dirty Deal was released on January 16, 2007 and I just want to thank each and everyone who has purchased this CD and kept me on the charts. Thank you for all your support and believing in me. I am very proud of this CD and I am working hard not to wait another five years to get another one out (who knows…maybe a live one). Thank you Fans and new Fans for your support! Like I always say: It’s a blessing for me to be up here and play for you each and every night.

Hope to see you in your town soon! Next notes will be this summer.

All the best,
Coco Montoya

January - 2007

First of all I want to say “HAPPY NEW YEAR” to everybody. 2007 is starting out great for me with my first CD in five years: “Dirty Deal.” I want to say THANK YOU to Steve Evans, Randy Hayes and Tony Stead for the exceptional playing. Also the boys from Little Feat - Thank you for taking me in a different direction that I have never been in before - you guys really made me step up. And playing with Paul Barrere and Kenny Gradney, Richie Hayward, Fred Tackett and Bill Payne…what an honor. I would like to thank a new friend and photographer Frank Vigil who shot the photos for “Dirty Deal” - check out his web site for more photos of myself and other great artists.

In 2006, I got a surprise call for session work for a tribute to Carlos Santana. The CD has been released and is called “Viva Carlos” on Tone Center Records. The CD has artists such as Robben Ford, Eric Johnson, Dave Weckl and Abraham Laboriel and Albert Lee. Check out “Jungle Strut” -I like the way it came out. Thank you Jeff Richman and Mike Varney for the call!

Now for my good friend Tommy Castro who also called and asked me to be on his new CD “Painkiller” on Blind Pig Records (an opportunity which I immediately jumped at). He is one of my favorite players. Boy did we have a good time: I’m not sure if we spent more time laughing or playing but it sure was fun. I just got a copy and I think he has a great CD going for him.

Also in the New Year 2007, I have been asked by Debbie Davies to do some recording in February on her new up and coming CD. I’m excited to be a part of it!

I also want to introduce my new keyboard player by way of Vancouver, WA: Dover Weinberg…whom you all might have seen playing with me near the end of last year. Dover has played with many other great artists over the years, such as Allbert Collins, Robert Cray, Lloyd Jones, and Curtis Salgado. You will really like what he brings to the band.

For us as a band we are excited about the new material, and that makes us eager to hit the road. We start off our Tour in the Northwest and will be out for nearly two and a half months. Check out “Dirty Deal” on Alligator Records…I think you will like it!

And last I want to thank all my Fans who have stuck by the Coco Montoya Band, who have waited for the new CD and the new web site. Thank you Nick “Web Master” Brethauer for all your hard work with the web site and the NEW MySpace page which will be up on January 16th! Hope you all get a chance to check it out and tell us what you think!

All the best for 2007!

-Coco Montoya
